DHS Proposes Significant Increases to Naturalization Application Fees
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has proposed a substantial increase in filing fees for individuals applying for U.S. citizenship. Under the proposed rule, naturalization application fees would increase by approximately 75%, while most fee waivers and reduced-fee options would be eliminated.
If implemented, the proposed filing fees would be:
Form N-400 (Application for Naturalization)
$1,330 for paper filings
$1,280 for online filings
Form N-336 (Request for a Hearing on a Decision in Naturalization Proceedings)
$1,475 for paper filings
$1,425 for online filings
While the rule has not yet taken effect, DHS is expected to move forward with implementation, anticipated by the year-end. We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as additional information becomes available.
