DHS Announces Changes to Admission Periods for F, J, and I Visa Holders
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a final rule that will change how periods of admission are determined for individuals in the F (academic student), J (exchange visitor), and I (foreign information media representative) visa classifications.
Currently, many individuals in these categories are admitted for the duration of their authorized program or status. Under the new rule, DHS will move toward a fixed period of admission, which may require certain individuals to take additional steps if they need to remain in the United States beyond their initial period of admission.
Our office will continue to review the impact of this rule and provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
